Today, April 7th, is “World Health Day” – which I would normally ignore. Or – more likely – unknowingly celebrate with a bottle of white wine paired with some sort of bread/cheese combination. But this winter has been brutal and the resulting daily exercise routine (walking from the elevator to a taxi) combined with my usual “5 year-old left home alone” diet, has resulted in a serious need for health(ier) living.
With no idea where to begin, I turned to Kris Schoels – On Air Lifestyle Expert and creator of YoungMarriedChic.com - as is obvious from her site, the amazing Kris has this healthy lifestyle thing down. She’s been generous enough to provide us with her expertise, naming her picks for NYC’s best healthy restaurants. Check out her site for more related awesomeness – in the meantime, here’s what she has to say about the best places in the NYC to get a health fix:
Pure Food and Wine or One Lucky Duck (Pure Food’s takeout spot)
Sarma (the owner) and her crew are a group of geniuses. Not only do they make magic happen with raw food but Sarma created such an amazing atmosphere over at Pure Food and Wine. With the warmer weather approaching, take advantage of it and go for a meal in their huge backyard garden. My top picks from the menu? ALL OF THE DESSERTS, seriously, and either the lasagna or caesar salad for lunch. Pop over to One Lucky Duck after eating for a bag of chia thins and raw chocolate chip cookies.

Lifethyme Natural Market
This is my top pick for organic grocery stores in NYC that also happens to have the most delicious healthy hot bar, homemade soups, and vegan bakery. Grab your items to go and sit on the top floor cafe while enjoying a fresh juice from their bar.
Lifethyme Natural Market’s Address: 410 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10011

Good healthy options and tons of Paleo friendly dishes too. I love their chicken and quinoa soup with a side of grain free bread. I can’t even talk about their almond butter + puffed quinoa bar… chocolate is healthy, right?
HU Kitchen’s Address: 78 5th Ave. New York, NY 10011
HU Kitchen’s Phone Number: (212) 510-8919
A total hole in the wall (8th street between 5th and 6th ave) but an incredible spot- it’s literally a health nut’s paradise. Get the “nature burger” with their yogurt sauce… it will be out of this world. I actually buy the yogurt sauce by the pint, literally, it’s so good and if I could figure out how they make it I would. They also carry supplements, health bars, and peanut butter. What’s not to love?
