Stepping into Il Mulino, in Greenwich Village/West Village, is like visiting one of the “Godfather” movies – in the most awesome way. It’s small, dark and filled with old Italian guys who remind me of what my great-grandfather must have been the moment he stepped off the boat from Sicily. If you like seriously amazing food and have always kind of wanted to live the scene from “Big” where Tom Hanks chokes on the pizza dough that’s being tossed directly into his mouth (as I have), you’ll love Il Mulino.
The restaurant is a great place for small plates, romantic dates, celebrity sightings, parent visits, people watching and entertaining out of town friends.
Good For Parent Visits: Especially if they’re fans of Italian food, this place is the best in the city. Plus, if they’re footing the bill, it’s your chance to try it out without hurting your wallet.
Good For Out Of Town Friends: Il Mulino is exactly what every non-New Yorker imagines old New York to be. Entertain your friends’ stereotypes by bringing them here for a delicious dinner.
Good For Romantic Dates: It’s dark and sexy in an old-school Italian way. The staff will make sure you’re incredibly full when you leave, though, which doesn’t always set the mood. Still, it’s a good place to bring someone you want to impress with a dinner and then take on a romantic stroll to walk off the meal before hitting the sheets.
Good For Small Bites: The moment you sit down, the parade of food begins. Before you even order, you’ll indulge on incredible cheeses, meats and delicious bread varieties. On top of that, the appetizers are truly delicious and the main courses can easily be shared.
Good For Celebrity Sightings: Though it’s not necessarily a “celeb hot spot” the likes of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have been known to enjoy a meal here (sometimes together) and it attracts a fair amount of other celebrities as well.
