The Fat Radish, is an adorably chic spot on the Lower East Side that, though several years old, still attracts the good-looking hipster types who flocked to the restaurant when it first opened. While the “British Seasonal” menu is both inventive and delicious, the main draw of this place is really the atmosphere and scene in general.
It’s a good NYC restaurant for celebrity sightings, business meals, brunch – both boozy and group, first dates, groups, lunch, girls’ dinners, beautiful people watching, romantic dates and entertaining out of town friends.
Good For Groups: If you’re planning to bring a group here, make the reservation far in advance. It’s not impossible – I’ve done dinners here with 8-10 people (though I was dining with friends of the owners) – but it can be tough to get in at popular times. Once you’re seated, though, the wine list, food and atmosphere make for a great night out with friends.
Good For Celebrity Sightings: I’ve spotted Jake Gyllenhaal eating with a seemingly bored model-type here. Ryan Gosling’s also a fan as well as several other hot, hipster celebs. Almost three years after the opening, they’re seen a little less frequently but The Fat Radish definitely still attracts some famous regulars.
Good For First Dates/Romantic Dates: If you’re someone who can do dinner on a first date (rather than just drinks), this is an good place to suggest if you’re pretty into the person you’ll be inviting. As far as romantic dates, it’s not over the top or “fancy,” necessarily, but the industrial-style space and dim lighting make the atmosphere conducive to a sexy night.
