Since it opened in 2006, The Waverly Inn has been a staple of the New York dining scene. An instant hotspot, thanks to owner Graydon Carter and his gaggle of celebrity friends, the food and atmosphere still manage to outshine the glitzy crowd.
Other than the almost guaranteed celebrity sightings the restaurant provides, it’s a great spot for business meals, groups, brunch, dinner with the girls, first dates, romantic dates, outdoor seating, group brunch, parent visits and entertaining out of town friends.
If you’re just looking to grab a drink in the bar area, it’s good for casual and first dates, girls’ nights out, meeting hot girls and rich guys and (also) entertaining out of town friends.
Good For First Dates: If it’s a blind – or near blind – date, the bar area is a better choice. However, though I rarely recommend dinner for a first outing with a potential significant other, the dining area of The Waverly Inn has such a comfortable atmosphere that it actually works. I’ve broken my rule, established to avoid awkwardness, a few times here and have always ended up having an unexpectedly good night.
Good For Girls’ Nights Out: Though it’s definitely not cheap, it’s a fantastic, intimate place to catch up with the girls over dinner and/or drinks.
Good For Small Bites: The Truffle Mac ‘n’ Cheese is still one of my favorite dishes in the city and there are several other amazing dishes for sharing.
